Text

For an ocean unit Coral is an easy 8 measure tune for building foundations in primary learners; musical, colors, descriptive words, and science.  Keyboard skills are developed using all five fingers of one hand.

  • Pitch Drill: Do-Mi-So, 1-3-5, see Pitches
  • Practice beat divisions, see Rhythms
  • Count BEATS: 1st grade from MUSIC ONLY, K using BEATS format, "Are there any patterns?"
  • Chant RHYTHM:  1st grade from MUSIC ONLY. K using RHYTHM format, "How many ti's make a ta?" - "The last note gets two ta's, so how many beats does it get?"
  • Chant PITCHES (numbers first):  "Do you see the notes in the Pitch Drill we sang?"  "Are there any patterns?"
  • Sing PITCHES (numbers first):  "How many pitches are used in this tune?"
  • Add TEXT:  chant then sing, "What can we change the TA's too, to make the notes match the word syllables for the second verse?" (measures, 1,5, and 6)

KEYBOARD

Upper grades should start with right thumb on 'C' and use all fingers, moving fifth finger to play 'A.'  For kindergarten and lower primary, this can be introduced when skill level is appropriate to abilities.
